Larry L. Miller – CEO, Matrix Equities, Inc.

Managing Member, Innovation Villas, LLC

With over 40 years of expertise in real estate development and operations, Larry L. Miller has established himself as a leader in the industry. As CEO of Matrix Equities, Inc. and Managing Member of Innovation Villas, LLC, Mr. Miller oversees an extensive portfolio spanning master-planned communities, residential subdivisions, homebuilding, hotel acquisitions, and retail, office, and industrial developments. He is also deeply involved in multi-resident care home operations, positioning Matrix Equities and its affiliates at the forefront of real estate innovation and sustainability.

Larry Miller has led several companies to surpass $100 million in sales, including Miller Holdings, Inc., Miller Holdings Investments, Inc., Omega Construction, Inc., and Omega Management Services, Inc.
Co-founder of Elite Communities
Based in Phoenix, Arizona, Elite Communities was recognized as the 3rd fastest-growing homebuilder company in the U.S. in 2006, generating approximately $500 million in annual revenue from master-planned community lot sales and homebuilding operations.
Innovation Villas
In 2020, through Matrix Equities, Mr. Miller launched Innovation Villas, a series of sustainable single-family rental home communities offering one- and two-bedroom homes with upscale amenities. This development redefines traditional living in the Phoenix and Dallas/Fort Worth metro areas, providing modern solutions to housing demands.
Diverse Entrepreneurial Background
Miller’s experience spans across various industries. He co-founded the first Sino-American commodities trading company and developed successful investment partnerships in real estate in the San Francisco Bay area. In the mid-1980s, he co-founded Cost Less Foods in Northern California, growing the warehouse grocery concept to over $100 million in annual sales before selling to a major wholesaler.

Robert J. Watt

Robert J. Watt’s illustrious real estate career spans over 40 years, encompassing engineering, land planning, entitlement, design, and construction. For the past 21 years, Mr. Watt has managed land acquisition and entitlement processes for large master-planned communities and high-density infill projects in Phoenix. His earlier career saw him develop mobile home parks, office buildings, retail centers, and single-family home subdivisions across Washington, Oregon, and Southern California.

Mr. Watt holds a Bachelor of Science in Accounting & Finance from San Jose State University and an MBA from the University of Denver. He is also a proud veteran, having served as a Captain in the U.S. Army.

Additionally, Mr. Smith contributed to the planning of the St. Kitts Peninsula Resort in the Caribbean, offering solutions for wastewater treatment, water supply, marina development, golf course design, and resort planning.

Prior to Omega Management, Mr. Smith’s portfolio included landmark projects in Phoenix such as Desert Highlands, Troon Village, and Desert Mountain. He has played a pivotal role in designing 11 golf courses, collaborating with renowned architects like Jack Nicklaus and Tom Fazio. His expertise spans hydrology, drainage studies, infrastructure design, and the management of master-planned communities.

Mr. Smith holds a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Arizona State University, is a Registered Professional Engineer, and a Licensed General Contractor. His additional certifications include:

  • Designer of Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plans
  • Storm Water Pollution Prevention Compliance Inspector
  • Rule 10 Comprehensive Dust Control Compliance

Michael E. Walla

Michael E. Walla oversees the legal and financial operations of Matrix Equities and its affiliates, leveraging over 25 years of experience in real estate. As a former tax partner with KPMG, LLP, Mr. Walla served as the National Director of the firm’s Real Estate Tax Practice and Homebuilding and Land Development Tax Practices.

Mr. Walla’s expertise includes structuring acquisitions and dispositions, corporate reorganizations, and financial valuations. Notably, he directed the tax-free structuring of a reverse merger for a private homebuilder into a public company, preserving substantial net operating loss carry-forwards.

Mr. Walla earned his Bachelor of Science and Juris Doctor degrees from the University of Nebraska and is a Certified Public Accountant.

Ronald L. Smith, P.E.

Ronald L. Smith brings over 35 years of expertise in project management, land use planning, civil engineering, and construction management, specializing in land development across the southwestern U.S. Since joining Larry Miller’s team in 1998, he co-founded Omega Management, Inc., which became Arizona’s second-largest residential land development company, delivering 46,000 residential lots and managing $100M annually in infrastructure projects.

Mr. Smith has also contributed to Caribbean resort planning and notable Phoenix projects like Desert Highlands and Troon Village, collaborating with architects such as Jack Nicklaus. He holds a B.S. in Civil Engineering from ASU, is a Registered Professional Engineer, Licensed General Contractor, and certified in stormwater and dust control compliance.

Mac McWilliams

Mr. McWilliams is a registered Professional Engineer in the State of Texas and has a BS Degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Texas at Arlington. His 52-year career as consulting engineer included civil engineering and construction management for mixed-use developments, retail, multifamily, industrial, medical office, educational K-12, colleges, police and fire stations, water and recreational parks, hike and bike trails. His experience includes working with local cities and government agencies to obtain construction document approval, Planning and Zoning approval, Board of Adjustments and City Council approval for rezoning.
